Job Vacancy – Maintenance Technician (Electrical)
The maintenance Technician (Electrical) is responsible for carrying out preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance of electrical systems, production machinery, equipment, and plant utilities to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations within SPEK Industries Limited. The role involves inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, cleaning, testing, installing, and servicing electrical equipment and control systems to minimize downtime, maximizing equipment availability, and support continuous production. The Maintenance Technician (Electrical) also maintains accurate maintenance records, supports equipment installation and commissioning, manages the proper use of electrical tools and spare parts, and ensures compliance with company policies, quality standards, and applicable health, safety, and environmental regulations while working collaboratively with production teams and other maintenance personnel to achieve operational objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct preventive, corrective, and predictive maintenance of electrical systems, machinery, production equipment, and plant utilities.
- Diagnose and repair electrical faults on motors, control panels, wiring systems, PLCs, sensors, drives, and other electrical components.
- Perform routine inspections, testing, calibration, and servicing of electrical equipment to ensure optimal performance and reliability.
- Respond promptly to electrical breakdowns and restore equipment to operational condition within acceptable timelines.
- Install, commission, and modify electrical equipment, machines, and control systems as required.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, schematics, and technical manuals to support maintenance activities.
- Ensure compliance with electrical safety procedures, lockout/tagout (LOTO) requirements, and company health, safety, and environmental standards.
- Monitor the condition of electrical equipment and recommend repairs, upgrades, or replacements to improve reliability and efficiency.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, equipment history, fault reports, and work orders.
- Ensure proper use, maintenance, and accountability of electrical tools, testing instruments, and maintenance equipment.
- Support spare parts management by identifying electrical spare part requirements and ensuring timely replacement of faulty components.
- Assist in continuous improvement initiatives aimed at reducing equipment failures, energy consumption, and maintenance costs.
- Report maintenance activities, equipment status, and operational challenges to the Maintenance Supervisor.
Education and Certification
- Ordinary Diploma or Full Technician Certificate (FTC) in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or Industrial Maintenance from a recognized institution or
- VETA Trade Test Grade One or Level III/NVA in Industrial Electricity or Electrical Installation from the Vocational Education and Training Authority.
Experience and Skills
- 2 to 5 years of hands-on experience in a manufacturing, mining, or heavy industrial plant setup.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, blueprints, and wiring diagrams.
- Practical knowledge of PLC systems, control panels, VFDs (drives), and 3-phase motors.
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools like multimeters.
Compliance and Additional Requirements
- Knowledge of industrial safety standards such as Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO).
- Fluent in Swahili and English (spoken and written).
- Computer literacy.
